So that issue with my slow, slow wiper motor that wouldn’t pass inspection? Apparently the car just needs to be running. Yea. Basically unlike any other car I have ever worked on. Also found out that my owners manual’s fuse diagram is completely wrong. That gives me a ton of confidence. Anyway, at least it is one last thing I have to worry about (and buy). Although now I have to buy some vacuum tubing because I lost a small piece of hose for the pissers.

So, wait. Wiper speed is a point of inspection?? My wipers on my ‘61 Ford are pretty slow at idle... at least they’re not vacuum-actuated. But I would bet they’re really slow with the engine off. NH inspections also aren’t the strictest in the country... not super-lax but not bad.

PA mandates 45 cycles per minute. It is so slow that mechanics likely don’t test for it- 99.999% of cars will pass it no problem. Basically they set that limit to prove your wipers actually work. Mine were so bad that it was obviously unsafe. Not that I would drive it in the rain (leaky t tops) but no one in their right mind would think it was safe. I don’t know if my mechanic would have failed it, but I would have if I were him lol.

That’s, uh... not normal. My T/A’s wiper motor works with just the ignition in the on position. I’d check your wiring haha! Luckily the whole system is stupidly simple. The problem I keep running into is finding quality wipers that fit under the hood.

I think you can buy replacement blades (just the rubber) online. I still haven't gone through with a wire brush and cleaned all my grounds yet, might fix a few things.

Good luck to you sir, I would just guess the fuse box routing is weird or there just isn’t enough power in the battery to run the old motor without the car on. Have you restored your dash bezel yet by chance?

Sorta. Aircraft stripper works nice but I couldn’t get the clear coat right to save my life. Mine is good as long as you don’t look close at it.
